Home Cholesterol Tests

The author of the following article grew up at a time when no one had even heard of a home cholesterol test. The absence of that in-home test might have been partly responsible for the untimely and early death of the author’s father. The author suspects that her father would have eaten much less ice cream if he could have had access to a home cholesterol test. The family could have posted the test results on the refrigerator door. That would probably have reduced the number of nights when the author’s father chose to scrape the sides of an ice cream carton.

This writer, who happened to grow up eating lots of Chex cereal, is pleased to see that at least one advertiser has chosen to assist the public with the interpretation of home cholesterol tests. In fact the ad which provides that assistance is one of this writer’s favorite ads. That is because it focuses on a conversation between a small boy and his grandfather. While book publishers now discourage use of that oft-repeated combination, apparently the ad creators do not. As a result, the Cheerios Company has hinted at the importance of home cholesterol tests in one of its recent TV commercials. (more…)

While advertisements for home cholesterol tests do not appear on the TV, the message in many TV ads lends a touch of importance to all such tests. Many commercials for various food products, especially cereals, mention the ability of that product to lower a person’s cholesterol level. They focus on the degree to which an acceptable cholesterol level helps to insure heart health. They emphasize how possession of a healthy heart can offer hope for a longer life. In that way those ads also speak about the importance of home cholesterol tests, tests of one’s chances for enjoyment of a long life. (more…)

After years of having bad teeth, my own teeth have just about rotted out of my head. I’ve always had problems with high cholesterol but never knew it until my teeth started falling out. I almost lost them all when I found the home cholesterol test which was a life saver, or rather a teeth saver. Unlike many of the diagnostic tests, which check for the presence of a disease, home cholesterol tests can help to prevent severe cardiovascular problems. Home cholesterol tests allow a physician to do a better job of monitoring the cholesterol content in a patient’s bloodstream. In that way the physician can offer the patient more informed advice in relation to the patient’s diet. A patient with a high cholesterol level might be told to eliminate potential sources of cholesterol, such as ice cream or whip cream. A patient who chose to ignore the doctor’s sound advice might later fall victim to a heart attack.
